When I first picked up a camera, I was honestly scared. I had no idea what I was doing, and no clue where to even begin. I just knew I wanted to do it. From a young age I have been in love with the thought of captured memories. I just never thought I’d be good enough to actually take on photography.

But, how do you know if you never try, right? So, with some encouragement I purchased my first camera, and I started out watching YouTube videos on where to begin and how to edit. for months it felt like I weeded through hundreds of videos, and ultimately I am not sure it really got me anywhere.

I practiced taking pictures of Rylee and I liked them. I just didn’t love them. I was so confused on settings and the proper way to even use the camera.

I had this image in my head of what I wanted them to look like based on all the other work I seen, from the more experienced, polished photographers, The fresh clean looks were something I day dreamed of, I just could not get my photos to look like that.

I felt defeated, Like I had just wasted all that money for nothing. I followed every instruction I found or was given to produce “those photos”, but always failed. I was mad at myself for thinking I could even be a photographer. So, Frustrated I put down my camera. (for the most part anyway)

So fast forward a couple months….

One day we decided to get out of the house and go riding. so we threw on some comfy clothes and our flip flops and took off out the door like kids that were just given free range in a candy store, lol.

Before we left the house I decided to bring my camera, and boy am I glad I did, because that day was very much one straight out of a movie.

It was a beautiful warm summer day, and there was a slight breeze, just enough to make the heat of summer comfortable. and with that breeze came the unforgettable sweet, sweet smell of honeysuckle. and if you have ever been in the south, in the middle of summer, you know what I am talking about. AMAZING.

anyway, off in the distance you could hear cows bellowing or the tractors plowing in the fields, birds chirping, and the buzz of a honey bee. everything just seemed to move in slow motion, like a dream. one of which I could have lived in forever.

We spent hours riding and looking, taking in every little detail, and we would stop any time something caught my eye. I was happy. It was much needed reset, and Still one of the best days of my life.

A literal “picture perfect” day.

So, in conclusion, taking the leap, buying that camera, and bringing it with me that day was the best decision I could have made. it reminded me that I do this because I love it, not because I have something to prove to anyone, like I thought. one day I hope to be like the other photographers that inspire me, but for now, I am happy…

Below are some of my favorite pictures I took on that day!

ENJOY!!

(The pictures of the cows are my most favorite. (if you know me well you know I love cows lol.) the first cow picture you see is the first picture that I printed out on canvas. It still hangs on my wall as a reminder of that day and why I started and why I won’t ever stop.)
